Why Nordic Companion Dog?

The choice of our name was a deliberate decision and reflects the philosophy behind our breeding.

Terms such as Wolfdog or Wolf Hybrid are often associated with wolf-dog hybrids or dogs with a high percentage of wolf ancestry. As this can easily lead to misunderstandings, we consciously chose a different name.

Our goal is not to breed so-called Wolfdogs with the highest possible percentage of wolf DNA or the closest possible genetic relationship to the gray wolf. Instead, our vision is to develop a healthy, well-balanced and reliable companion dog that combines the natural appearance of a wolf with the temperament required for everyday family life.

Some of our dogs originate from bloodlines in which a small amount of gray wolf DNA can still be detected. These wolf contributions are historical in origin and, in most cases, trace back many generations. Our dogs are not wolf-dog hybrids, but domestic dogs with a well-documented breeding history.

Established wolf-like breeds, such as the Tamaskan Dog, Northern Inuit Dog and Utonagan, each have their own history, philosophy and breeding objectives. We respect these breeds and the work behind them.

With Nordic Companion Dog, we are not attempting to replace or redefine any existing breed. Rather, the name represents our own philosophy and our personal vision of a wolf-like companion dog.

Nordic reflects the northern landscapes, rugged climate and the primitive northern dogs that inspire our vision.

Companion represents the most important part of our philosophy: a dependable companion that integrates naturally into everyday family life.

Together, these two words express exactly what Nordic Companion Dog stands for.
